MARITIME
MUSEUM
1994
Site: Old Slip, Manhattan
Program: Maritime Museum, exhibition, library, audio-visual room, herring bar
>The focus of the project was to convert a Renaissance
Revival building into a multi-purpose waterfront museum in a way that emphasizes
the vertical movement of the users. Floors were taken out, and ramps exist insted
of stairs and elevators. The result is a playful, ramp-based circulation, and
an under-the-sea feel to the overall atmosphere.

BUILDING PROJECTS
at Yestermorrow Design & Build School
1995
>Porch Renovation Project: We were asked to rebuild
a porch. We had an extensive design session with the clients, where they told
us what they wanted and gave us the permission to have artistic freedom.
The rafters (picture right bottom) depict mountains of Vermont, with the phases
of the moon.
Other projects included demolition of an old Inn, putting in windows, and tiling.
The entire process focused upon sustainability, in which renewable energy (solar
panels, passive heating, solar water heaters) was used, and raw materials were
reused or harvested locally.
